IdentifyLife

IdentifyLife is a worldwide collaborative project to provide ways to identify the world's living organisms. Use IdentifyLife to find the keys you need to identify a living creature. If you know a little or a lot about a group of organisms, join the IdentifyLife community and get involved to share your knowledge with others.

What does IdentifyLife do?

IdentifyLife has two main parts. Keys Central is a global index and repository for web-based identification tools. If you need to identify something, use Keys Central to find a suitable identification key. And if you know about a good web-accessible key, tell others about it by adding it to the Keys Central index.

IdentifyLife also has an ambitious goal: to create, over time, a Key to All Life - an identification key to all the world's living organisms! If you have an unknown organism, the Key to All Life will ask you questions about the features of your organism. Answering these questions will help to narrow the possibilities until, perhaps, only one remains. Any creature, any where. Like we said, it's ambitious.
