Introduction to the Lucid Insect Pest and Beneficial Keys
This series of Lucid keys have been developed to help you identify insects and spiders found in a rice crop. To view these keys you must first install a copy of the Lucid 2 Player on your computer. A free "standard" player can be downloaded from http://www.lucidcentral.org/lucid2/player/lucidplayer.htm.
If you are not sure what group the insect or spider belongs to - open up the key to the Orders of Insects and Spiders by clicking here. This key will help you identify which Order your specimen belongs to and you can then open up further sub-keys to make a more specific identification. If the Order to which your specimen belongs is not one of these Orders, it is unlikely to be a pest or a beneficial but more likely to be a detritovore or a "tourist" - just passing through.
If you are confident that the insect (or spider) you have found belongs to one
of the groups shown at the bottom of this screen - click on the group name to
see if there are further sub-keys. If there is a key to the group to which your
specimen belongs, you can open up that key by clicking on the "go to
" symbol
beside the group. If there is only one relevant species in that group, the link
will send you directly to the fact sheet (
) for that species).
